I am training for my fourth Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race at the end of September in Cumberland. Every time I race I notice where I could improve (a lot of places), where I could push myself a bit harder (everywhere), and what I really need to work on (everything). Unlike most XC bikers, after a laborious uphill, I don’t feel the thrill of hitting the crest and powering down – I am terrified. There are loose rock, trees, logs and roots, and then me hovering precariously over it all on my bike. This mental block needs to change; I need to find my love for speed.
